  Here's an example. I flew this plane 5 times, so I have 5 values in my data. I add up all the values and divide by 5:
31 + 23 + 36 + 42 + 41 / 5 = 34.6
The mean of this data is 34.6. This means that this plane flies 34.6 feet on average. It won't always fly that far, and sometimes it will fly farther, but the distance will be around 34.6 feet.
