Michelle, a gardener
Michelle, who is deaf, works at an arboretum as a biological science aide. She helps take care of the plants around the visitor center.
My parents moved into a house that didn’t have any landscaping at all, so they said, ‘Go ahead. You can take care of it.’ And I said, ‘Great!’ I ended up putting in the garden and making it beautiful, and I got a lot of compliments from my family and neighbors, and so I realized that this was what I really love to do. I like moving about, and I like keeping things beautiful.
